GMI Solutions – Manufacturing Technician Job Description
Technician with one or more of the following proficiency levels:
- Assembly Technician
- Manufacturing Technician
- Advanced Manufacturing Technician
SUMMARY
Under the direction of a Manufacturing Manager, the “Technician” is responsible for varying levels of assembly and ancillary manufacturing tasks in accordance with prescribed procedures, with the complexity of those tasks depending on the attained proficiency level. Over time, a “Technician” may flex between different proficiency levels based on performance and company needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary to meet the needs of the organization from time to time, as needed.
Assembly Technician
- Ability to log onto a computer to read and comprehend assembly instructions
- Familiar with basic tools such as a power screw driver and pliers
- Accurately record material and serial number transactions
- Understand the location of materials and job specific process flows
- Repeatably and efficiently assembly components or build a series of simple machines (generally <1 hr to build) following specific build instructions containing English text and pictures without errors
- Carefully handle delicate components without incurring damage
Manufacturing Technician
Everything for the Assembly level plus:
- Can readily identify various electro-mechanical components and assembly tools, especially computer equipment
- Repeatably and efficiently build a diverse set of complex machines (generally 2-4 hrs to build) following specific build instructions containing English text and pictures without errors
- Able to perform simple tests and evaluate the pass/fail results per specific build instructions
- Able to rework assemblies built based on direction from others; able to apply knowledge from previous reworks to troubleshoot basic issues with assemblies built
Advanced Manufacturing Technician
Everything for the Assembly and Manufacturing levels plus:
- Readily grasp electro-mechanical concepts and applications thereof such as voltage, continuity, torque, grounding, ID/OD, wire gauges, etc.
- Readily understands and follows safe usage of a variety of manufacturing tools, such as lifts, cranes, drills, grinders, saws, etc.
- Repeatably and efficiently build a diverse set of highly complex machines (generally 5-50 hrs to build) following specific build instructions containing English text and pictures without errors
- Able to perform complex tests using electromechanical fixtures as part of the manufacturing process and able to evaluate pass/fail results through the application of limits and ranges and tolerances against multiple measurements simultaneously
- Able to mentor others in job related content
- Able to independently perform detailed troubleshooting on the assemblies built and identify proper reworks and perform them
- Able to repair and requalify diverse RMA units by interpreting legacy specifications and build instructions with limited direction from Repair Center
QUALIFICATIONS

Requires High school diploma or equivalent and some prior work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment or in a work environment employing one or more of the following skills: computer assembly, soldering, cable harness, electrical panel wiring, plumbing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Requires mathematical skills that require the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and to make metric system conversions.
- Must have the ability to read and understand written manufacturing instructions.
- Requires good oral and written communication skills in order to interact professionally and courteously with other associates.
- Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the Associate is frequently required to sit/stand and use hand(s) to operate tools and assemble parts. The Associate will occasionally talk and listen, climb or balance, reach above shoulders, bend at the knees or waist. H/she will frequently sit/stand, use hands to finger, handle or touch, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and move from place to place. The Associate must be able to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision and depth perception. Requires frequently hand dexterity.
