System Engineer

SUMMARY

The System Engineer, assumes responsibility in interpreting specifications and drawing specifications, to determine feasibility of design and to determine the most efficient and highest quality implementations of design. The position is required to work closely with Business Development Engineers, and Manufacturing Engineer as well as the rest of Design Engineering team to come up with solutions to Engineering problem. System Engineer is expected to perform the system engineering elements including: planning, requirement management, concept/solution development, risk management, verification, and lifecycle engineering.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary to meet the needs of the organization from time to time, as needed.

  1. Solution Development
    1. Create solution proposals from customer requirement
    2. Assists decision making by analyzing and selecting the best-balanced solutions to requirements
    3. Lead in resolving technical issues in both in-development projects and sustaining projects
    4. Create technical product specifications (PMR); include regulatory, mechanical, safety, electrical, and test requirements.
    5. Lead engineering team to respond to customer inquiry
    6. Determine feasibility of design
  2. Planning
    1. Interpret specification requirement and break down solution into their individual design tasks
    2. Cooperate with Electrical, mechanical, and software engineer to come up with accurate design plan
    3. Determine design lead time estimate from design plan
  3. Design
    1. Understand the interaction of designed subsystems in their relationship to the final product
    2. Coordination of resources contributing to designs
    3. Select commercial of-the-shelf (COTS) products for use in design
    4. Perform and review schematic, circuit board level and/or sheet metal enclosure design
    5. Responsible for the research and development of solutions to reported customer problems
    6. Redesign due to end-of-life component, cost reduction, etc.
    7. Strong background in Intel computer architectures required
    8. Familiar with typical electronic test equipment such as an oscilloscope, multi-meter and thermal probe
    9. Understand and practice revision control
  4. System Engineering
    1. Verification of individual component designs to ensure that it matches overall system requirement
    2. Manage system design risks
    3. Assist in lifecycle management
    4. Assist in creating project test requirements
    5. Coordinate with Test Engineers to accomplish certification or other external testing such as mechanical or package testing
  5. Lab Work
    1. Debugging of circuits and systems
    2. Research and development activities
    3. Development execution of test scenarios
    4. Minimal software test routines

QUALIFICATIONS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in electrical (preferred) or mechanical engineering or an equivalent. Product design experience is a must and Project Management experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Design experience is a must.
  2. Advance knowledge in utilization of MS Office tools and MS Project.
  3. Advance knowledge in reading both electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  4. Experience with Altium Designer is preferred
  5. Plastic and metalwork design experience is preferred
  6. Experience with working with ERP system is preferred
  7. Proper handling of design data (confidentiality, properly filing of design data, etc.)
  8. Open and responsive to learning and developing new competencies both personally and for the organization
  9. Must be able to handle multiple concurrent deadlines
  10. Must have the ability of foresight to alert appropriate individuals of potential problems.
  11. Must have a positive, must do attitude and be willing to go the extra mile when necessary to successfully complete projects.
